Surfrider Foundation's One Ocean Gala
October 8th, 2022
 | 5:00 PM

Every year, Surfrider hosts fundraising events in support of our mission to protect the world's ocean, waves and beaches. One of these lively events take place in the fall at The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano, CA, a beautiful 28 acre regenerative farm. The event rallies one of our largest and most dedicated communities, to celebrate coastal victories and raise critical funds to support the hard work of our coastal defenders. Most importantly, our events are the place where we continue to cultivate the friendships and vibrant networks of people who form the core of our grassroots organization.

Event guests will enjoy beautiful views, craft cocktails, silent and live auctions, a farm to table dinner by Chef Michael Campbell, and live music by Ron Artis II.  Back again, this year's event will also feature an incredible art auction -- 40 selected works curated by Charles Adler.

Our event brings together 300+ donors from LA & Orange County along with celebrities, media, and cultural icons from across the country who all share a passion for protecting the place we love -- our ocean.

Honoree: Shaun Tomson

Shaun is a World Champion surfer and was named one of the 10 Greatest Surfers of All Time. He founded two popular apparel brands, Instinct and Solitude (co-founded with his wife Carla); authored best selling books, Surfer's Code, The Code: The Power of "I Will", and recently released The Surfer and the Sage; and served on Surfrider Foundation's Board of Directors for two terms.

As Surfrider's first ambassador in 1984, Shaun created the first ever Surfrider advertisement 'Do a good turn today!'. Since then, he has continued to be a champion of Surfrider's work for the last 35+ years. This year we honor Shaun's activism, his influence in both surfing and environmental protection, and his long time support of Surfrider's mission to protect our ocean, waves and beaches for all people.

Live Music By: Ron Artis II

Ron Artis II is a multi-instrumentalist who grew up in Hawaii among an exceptionally musical family. The second oldest of 10 other siblings, Ron was surrounded by artists and musicians daily. Full band, trio or solo, Ron has performed and collaborated with Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), Jack Johnson, Jake Shimabukuro, Booker T Jones, Eric Krasno (Soulive, Lettuce) and G Love among others. Ron's songs are laced with intention, deep conviction, story, and a heart that has truly been there. Ron's trio will play a lively set against the beautiful backdrop of the regenerative farm.

"Little acts of kindness that demand very little out of an individual can change another person's whole perspective. We easily get bombarded with negativity. It's good to remember that the good things in life are out there and it is strong and all around us".

- Ron Artis II
